When a kidney patient is declared to have got both his kidneys damaged and is recommended a renal transplant by his urologist, the biggest challenge a Chronic kidney disease(CKD) patient faces is to find a suitable donor who not only has matching blood group or compatible tissue cross match but must be from within the family as per Human Organ Transplant Act of India. More than one–third of the potential living kidney donors who are willing to donate their kidney to their respective family members cannot donate due to blood type or antibody incompatibility. The patient loses out the opportunity to receive life saving transplant.
